PERSISTENT DEPRESSIVE DISORDER

in Children, Teenagers, and Adults

PDD is defined as a low mood occurring for at least two years, along with at least two other symptoms of depression.

Children through college students experience this chronic form of depression with fewer symptoms than MDD The symptoms are less serious as MDD, however they last longer than other forms of depression.

Some but not all of the symptoms for this disorder are the following:

  • Persistent irritability lasting at least two years

  • Poor performance in school

  • Trouble concentrating

  • They may have trouble sleeping

These symptoms can have a significant impact on the individual's personal, family, and social life if left untreated.

Depression is the most unpleasant thing...  It is the absence of being able to envisage that you will ever be cheerful again.  The absence of hope.
